What Does Solar Actually Cost in Central Florida?

Real 2026 numbers, without the outdated tax credit math still floating around online.

Quick note: every price below is before any tax credit, since the 30% federal residential credit expired at the end of 2025 – see our Incentives guide for the full picture. If an article or salesperson shows you a lower “after credit” price for a purchased system in 2026, that math is out of date.

Typical cost by system size

Your electric bill is the best rough predictor of what size system – and what price – you’re likely looking at:

Quick definition: “cost per watt” below refers to the price of the hardware and installation itself – not the price of electricity. Florida’s electricity rate (what you pay per kilowatt-hour used, or get credited through net metering) is a separate number, currently around $0.14–$0.16 per kWh.

These are rough Central Florida ranges, not a quote – actual pricing depends on your roof, equipment choice, and installer.

What actually moves the price

  • Roof type and complexity – a simple asphalt shingle roof costs less to mount on than tile, metal, or a roof with multiple planes and dormers.
  • Equipment tier – premium high-efficiency panels and microinverters cost more per watt than standard equipment, but can matter more on small or shaded roofs.
  • Battery storage – typically adds around $7,000-$18,000. Given how strong Florida’s net metering already is, a battery is more about backup power during outages than extra savings.
  • Permitting and interconnection fees – vary by county, usually a few hundred dollars.
  • Installer overhead – this varies more than most homeowners expect. It’s the main reason two quotes for the same system size can differ by thousands of dollars.

How to pay for it

Cash avoids financing costs entirely and keeps the lifetime cost lowest.

Solar loans spread the cost out over time but typically raise the effective cost per watt once interest is factored in.

Leases and PPAs require little to no money upfront, but a third party owns the equipment rather than you. That changes how some of the incentives on our Incentives guide apply – worth asking any lease or PPA provider to walk through your specific numbers rather than assuming they work the same as an owned system.

Getting an accurate quote for your home

Get quotes from at least two or three licensed Florida installers for the same system size, and compare cost per watt rather than just the total price – it’s the cleanest way to spot a quote that’s out of line.
